Hessnce is not just a talented artiste he is also a very savvy business man so once the decision was made to pursue a career in music he created his own recording label, XXYLUS Productions.

Since his youth, Emroy Anthony Elliott has strived to be original. That determination never left him, and is a trait carried over into his music career as singjay Hessnce.

The lanky Hessnce is from Waterhouse, a community that has produced a number of legendary reggae acts such as Black Uhuru, Wailing Souls, Hugh Mundell, Junior Reid and the legendary producer Lloyd “King Jammys” James.

Recently, the Kingston born artiste who’s a firm believer in positiveness launched his recording career with the release of a single titled “My Queen”. The song which is an ode to his mother. Self-produced, it was released on his XXYLUS label and distributed by Johnny Wonder 21 Century.

Though he admired the high-profile artistes from his community, Hessnce said stamping his seal on a music industry known for copycats, is critical.

“Growing up I’ve always paid keen attention to every artiste that made it in the spotlight, always admire their crafts and mimicking them sometimes, even. I always have been an open-minded music lover so I listened and fell in love with almost every genre,” he said. “Now, as an entertainer I pay no focus to any artiste but instead I’m taking all the craft, admiration and love I have for the music and placing it together to create HESSNCE.”

Since May, 2018 when he released “My Queen”, Hessnce has put out a number of follow-up singles including “Statement" “Grung Lawd”, “Clear Path”, “Money”, “Family” and “After All”, all on XXYLUS.

Like many Jamaican artistes, Hessnce grew up singing in church. One of his cousins, Junior Delgado, was a well-known singer.

It was Delgado, a protege of Dennis Brown known for songs like “Trickster” and “Merry Go Round”, who first got him interested in the business. But while he admired artistes like Beenie Man and followed the dancehall scene as a student at Calabar High School in Kingston, he never envisioned a career as an entertainer.

Hessnce was always drawn to different sounds --- from dancehall, to roots-reggae, R&B and hip hop. Shortly after he began writing songs and singing for fun, a series of life-changing events prompted him to start recording.

Those experiences, and encouragement from mentors and relatives like Jermaine Durrant, Aneika Elliott, Orette Masters, Ted Hastings, Stejon Howard, Edward Thomas and Derrek Callum, influenced his decision to transform into Hessnce the recording artiste.

Wary of music business complications, Hessnce has not limited himself to the recording side of the industry. So, once he kicked off his recording career, he was keen to produce his own songs and release them on an independent label he called XXYLUS Productions.

This move, he believes, gives him full control over his music and career. Ultimately, he wants to be a mogul in the mould of Berry Gordy or Sean “Diddy” Combs.

After pondering a career as an entertainer, Hessnce finally took the plunge. For him, it is a case of better late than never.

“I don’t think it’s taking long…I call it destiny.”
