GTR was a British rock band formed in 1985, consisting of guitarists Steve Howe and Steve Hackett. The group was founded as a response to the diminishing role of guitars in the English music scene at the time. After leaving Asia due to creative differences with singer John Wetton, Steve Howe joined forces with Steve Hackett, who had been frustrated by the lack of guitar-centric music. Their collaboration resulted in the formation of GTR, which aimed to create a strongly guitar-oriented sound while appealing to a broader market.The band's debut album, GTR, was released on December 21, 1986, and reached Number 11 on the US Billboard Charts, achieving gold status. The album featured notable tracks such as "When the Heart Rules the Mind" and "Imagining", which showcased the band's progressive rock roots alongside more mainstream AOR-rock elements. Despite its commercial success, the album disappointed some fans of Howe and Hackett's previous bands, Yes and Genesis, due to its departure from their typical progressive rock style. The band embarked on a tour in 1986, performing in smaller venues across the USA and Europe. However, GTR disbanded in 1987 after releasing only one album.
