The beginnings of Anawak date back to 1998 when its Mexican founder Ana Cihuacoatl participated as a solo singer in different types of ceremony around Mexico:
Oaxaca with the Mazatecos, sacred Wixarika places in northern Mexico, central Mexico with Aztec tradition, Teotihuacan in "Danza de la luna" and Danza del Sol Lakota, on the international beach of Zipolite Oaxaca for 15 consecutive years.
It is from 2003, when Ana Cihuacoatl begins to perform ceremonial songs and dances in a scenic way and founded ANAWAK, inviting talented singers and dancers to be part of the project.
International activities since 2004:
Live radio performance and 3 concerts at the XVIII Festival International de Musique Universitaire in Belfort, France. "Café Babel" and on the esplanade of the "Center Pompidou" in Paris, France. Ana Cihuacoatl performed, with a song and fire guide, the summer solstice ceremony at the "Egyptian Temple of Debod" in Madrid, Spain, and also performed as a guest singer at the Tetraktis Percussion Project in Mexico City.
2006 Launch of Anawak's first album "Cuatro Águilas" at the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City.
2012 Launch of his second album “Primer Sol” on the El Despertar Ancestral tour with Ac Tah (El Caminante Maya). Tribal Vision Festival in Taos New Mexico and Owl Tribe Tour with American rapper Kellee Maize.
2013-2017 Ceremonies and events every summer and fall in the United States of America.
2018 - Release of the third album Caminando a Wirikuta in a musical fusion with Niwetzika (Ensemble Wixarika) produced by A. Colavita, contemporary musician.
