Alberto Erede was an Italian conductor known for his work in opera houses. He studied piano and cello in Genoa, then composition in Milan, and received conducting training under Felix Weingartner in Basel, also working as an assistant to Fritz Busch in Dresden. In 1930, he was appointed conductor of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia Orchestra in Rome. From 1934, he collaborated with Fritz Busch at the Glyndebourne Festival. His early career also included work at Salzburg and engagements with orchestras in Turin and later London and New York, including conducting debuts in the late 1930s in both cities. During and after the war, he worked in Italy with the RAI Orchestra in Turin and later held major posts including at the New Opera Company in London. He was appointed to a leading role at the Metropolitan Opera in 1950, where he remained until 1955, and later returned for further seasons in the mid-1970s. He continued working as a conductor into later life and died on April 12, 2001, in Monte Carlo.
