Biography

Charlotte Aitchison (born August 2nd, 1992 in Cambridge), who goes by the name Charli XCX, is an English singer-songwriter who has become a popular performer of electro-dance music after she appeared at raves and parties in England as a teenager and released a mixtape that earned her a recording contract. In 2013, she featured on Icona Pop's “I Love It”, which went to number one on the UK Singles Chart and reached number seven on Billboard's Hot 100. She released her first studio album, True Romance, in 2013, followed the next year by Sucker. In 2014, she also featured on Iggy Azalea's Grammy-nominated single “Fancy”, which topped the Billboard Hot 100, and her single “Boom Clap”, which is heard on the soundtrack of the hit feature film The Fault in Our Stars, went to number six in the UK and number eight in America. Sucker reached number 15 on the UK Albums Chart and peaked at number 28 on the Billboard 200, and the single “Doing It” (2015) featuring Rita Ora peaked at number eight in the UK. Her 2016 EP Vroom Vroom, produced by the late Scottish hyperpop pioneer SOPHIE, went to number two on Billboard's Top Dance/Electronic Albums Chart and she toured Europe with Katy Perry in 2015, also performing at festivals including Glastonbury, Leeds and Lollapalooza. In 2017, she released two more mixtapes, Number 1 Angel and Pop 2, and released the single “Boys” from an upcoming album. She features along with Cardi B and Bebe Rexha on Rita Ora's single “Girls”, released in 2018, and in the same year she toured with Taylor Swift. In 2019, she released her third studio album, Charli, which contained the singles “1999” with Troye Sivan, “Blame It On Your Love” featuring Lizzo and “Gone” with Christine and the Queens. Just months into the coronavirus pandemic, she began working on a new album from scratch, taking a transparent approach to the creative process in which she caught up with fans on regular livestreams and released the multitrack stems for each song on the album. The LP, entitled how i’m feeling now, arrived in May 2020, centred around harsh pop productions from 100 gecs’ Dylan Brady and PC Music affiliates A.G. Cook and Danny L Harle. It reached #33 in the UK and was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Preceded by the singles "Good Ones," "New Shapes," and "Beg for You," her fifth full-length Crash arrived in 2022 and reached the top of the UK Albums Chart.
