Biography

Born in Grande Prairie, Alberta, on January 20, 1994, the Canadian songwriter Tenille Townes rose to fame at a young age, earning her first Canadian Country Music Award nomination for "Female Artist of the Year" when she was only 17 years old. Her debut album, Real, was released by the Canadian label Royalty Records in 2011, followed by the sophomore effort Light in 2013. Townes found an international audience after signing with Columbia Nashville in 2018 and releasing her major-label debut single, "Somebody's Daughter," that September. The song rose to Number 1 on Billboard's Canada Country chart, Number 4 on Australia Country, and Number 26 on the US Country Airplay chart, earning platinum status in Canada and gold status in America. Another single, "Jersey on the Wall (I'm Just Asking)," returned Townes to the top of the Canada Country chart in 2019 and helped her win four awards — including "Female Artist of the Year" and "Songwriter of the Year" — at that year's Canadian Country Music Awards. "Jersey on the Wall (I'm Just Asking)" and "Somebody's Daughter" both appeared on her album The Lemonade Stand in 2020. Townes co-wrote every song on the album, which reached Number 26 on the Canadian Albums chart and Number 41 on US Top Country Albums. It was later named "Country Album of the Year" and the 2021 Juno Awards, and Townes continued her momentum with singles like 2020's "Come As You Are," 2021's "Girl Who Didn't Care," and 2022's "When It Gonna Happen," all of which cracked the Top 10 on Canada's country charts.
