Joseph Ward Simmons, better known by the stage names Rev. Run, Run, or DJ Run, was born on November 14, 1964, in Hollis, Queens, New York. He is an American rapper, DJ, and television personality, and a founding member of the influential hip-hop group Run-D.M.C., which he formed with Darryl “D.M.C.” McDaniels and DJ Jason “Jam-Master Jay” Mizell. Before Run-D.M.C., Simmons was the lead vocalist of the hip-hop group The Force. In 2005, Simmons released his first solo album, Distortion, featuring the single “Mind On The Road,” which was included in EA Sports’ Madden NFL 06 video game. That same year, he gained renewed popularity through the MTV reality television series Run’s House, which focused on his family life. Simmons also became a practicing minister after being ordained by E. Bernard Jordan.
