Paulius Kilbauskas is one of Lithuania’s most unique and acclaimed composers, producers and multi-instrumentalists and has been at the forefront of Lithuanian music for 25 years.
Through collaborations and solo projects, Paulius has recently been pushing the boundaries of film composition with a focus on electronic textures.
Paulius’ most recent solo record, Elements, emerged when he moved to Bali for a year. Although the move was not undertaken with an album in mind, Paulius found himself among a community of skilled Gamelan musicians. A strong musical connection was formed and the tracks that make up Elements found an initial form. Through these recording sessions, Paulius’ electronic compositions took on new characteristics, tones and timbres. Each track on the album attempts to distill a particular elemental mood - ‘Air’, ‘Fire’, ‘Dawn’, ‘Space’ - arriving at a truly universal language of music. The record was finished by Paulius alone back in the Lithuanian winter, a stark contrast to the humidity of the pieces’ writing conditions - another impetus behind the album’s elemental theme.
