Dieter Thomas Heck, born Carl-Dieter Heckscher in 1937 in Flensburg, Germany, was a singer known for his contributions to German pop music. After developing a stutter at age five and later receiving classical singing training, he began his career in the 1950s. In 1961, Heck participated in the preliminary round of the Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson. His breakthrough came with ZDF-Hitparade, a popular TV program featuring German Schlager music that he hosted from 1969 to 1984. During this period, he showcased international performers who sang in German, including Ricky Shayne and Costa Cordalis. Throughout his career, Heck received numerous awards, such as the Goldene Kamera lifetime achievement award in 2017. He died in 2018, in Berlin.
