Led by bilyana furnadzhieva and Viktor Benev, Crystal sound project is a hybrid where sculptures in porcelain, sound objects, electroacoustic music, poetry, languages seamlessly interact and bring forth an eclectic audio-visual canvas.
A nomad in a no man's land, the project reunites various cultures and traditions through the language of music and improvisation, breaking any established boundaries, be it geographical, political or linguistic.
While experimental at heart, Crystal Sound, the debut album of the duo is a display of how unchartered territories, which intermingle four languages and contemporary music know-how, can be presented in a universal way, proving Crystal sound project embodies the essence of contemporary experimental music, free improvisation, technology and pop allure.
After the critically acclaimed Confronting Silence from 2023, the project's most recent instalment In the Willow Dream is coming in September 2024. A project in collaboration with the visual artist and singer Åsa Öhrn and Russian flute player Artem Naumenko.
To a great extent, an original songs collection in Swedish and English, combined with two Bulgarian-English adaptations of poems by Maria Aglikina, the album takes on subjects such as war, isolation, loss, love, resurrection and conceptually presents them in a long-form story-telling manner with the signature sculptural sounds enveloping the otherwise experimental rock, electronic, free jazz and neo-classical compositions.
