Unison Square Garden (stylized as UNISON SQUARE GARDEN or USG) is a Japanese rock band formed in 2004, known for their energetic performances and eclectic musical style. Comprising vocalist and guitarist Kosuke Saito, bassist Tomoya Tabuchi, and drummer Takao Suzuki, the band won the grand prize at the TEENS' MUSIC FESTIVAL Musical Instrument Store Competition, making their major debut on July 23, 2008, with the single "Sentimental Period," released by Toys Factory. Their self-titled debut album, UNISON SQUARE GARDEN, appeared in April, 2009, charting at number 20 on the Oricon Charts followed by sophomore album JET CO. which hit the shelves in 2010, reaching number 24. The 2011 single "Orion wo Nazoru," from third album, Populus Populus (2011), became one of their most iconic tracks, gaining widespread popularity as the opening theme for the anime Tiger & Bunny. Their fourth album, CIDER ROAD, released on February 6, 2013, debuted at number 9 on the Oricon Weekly Album Chart, marking their first top 10 entry. In 2014, their fifth album Catcher in the Spy reached number 5, spawning the top 10 singles "桜のあと (all quartets lead to the?)" and "Harmonized Finale" however it was 2015 single "Sugar Song and Bitter Step" that gained massive popularity as the ending theme for the anime Blood Blockade Battlefront and subsequently topping the Billboard Japan Hot 100. Their star continued to rise with subsequent albums Dr.Izzy (2016) MODE MOOD MODE (2018) and Patrick Vegee (2020) hitting the top three, and the band finally took out the Number 1 position in April 2023, with Ninth Peel, featuring singles like "Kaleido Proud Fiesta," used as the opening theme for TIGER & BUNNY 2, and "Chaos is extreme.," from TV anime Blue Lock. In July 2024, the band released their 34-track 20th anniversary album, SUB MACHINE, BEST MACHINE, which hit number 4 on the Oricon charts and the Billboard Japan Hot 100 respectively, commemorating this with a major tour, culminating in a grand finale in Osaka at the end of the year.
