The Motowns were a British beat ensemble from Liverpool active between 1966 and 1975. The group was established by Douglas Meakin, Lally Stott, Tony Crowley, Mike Logan, and Robbie Scott. They achieved professional recognition in Italy after being discovered at the Piper Club and signing with RCA Italiana. They achieved professional recognition for the track “Prendi la chitarra e vai” (1966), which won the Cantagiro competition (1967). Their recording career includes the debut studio recording Sì, proprio i Motowns (1967) and the tracks “Dentro la fontana” (1968) and “Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye” (1970). They appeared in films including L'immensità (1967) and Toby Dammit (1968). After the departure of Stott in 1970, a second formation included Dave Sumner and Mick Brill. The ensemble became inactive in 1975.
