Shoukichi Kina, born 喜納昌吉 on June 10, 1948 in Koza, Okinawa, Japan, is a singer and politician. He gained prominence as part of the Okinawan folk rock scene in the 1970s and 1980s with his band Champloose. Kina's first major hit was "Haisai Ojisan" ("Hey, old man"), written during high school but released in 1972. Their debut album 喜納昌吉&チャンプルーズ (Shoukichi Kina & Champloose) was released in 1977 and became a classic of Japanese folk-rock. Notable songs include "Subete No Hito No Kokoro Ni Hana O" ("Flowers For Your Heart") from the album Blood Line, which gained international recognition. Kina's activism, particularly focused on peace efforts in Okinawa, is reflected in his music. He was elected to the House of Councillors in July 2004 and ran for re-election in 2010, but lost his bid.
