Biography

One of the few hardcore bands to achieve mainstream success in their native Brazil, CPM22 was formed in the city of Barueri in 1995. Consisting of Badauí (vocals), Luciano (guitar), Daniel (drums), and Ali (bass), they released their first demo as CPM in 1996, followed by a second one in 1998 under the name CPM22. Thanks to their relentless work ethic, the group soon became a mainstay of the underground hardcore scene and independently released their studio debut A Alguns Quilômetros de Lugar Nenhum in 2000. Following a tour throughout Southern Brazil with American punk band Lagwagon, they released their eponymous major-label debut in 2001, garnering major recognition with tracks like “Regina Let's Go!,” “Tarde de Outubro,” and “O Mundo Dá Voltas.” The album was a smash success in Brazil and earned them the Revelation of the Year award at the MTV VMB 2002. Preceded by the hit single “Não Sei Viver sem Ter Você,” Chegou a Hora de Recomeçar (2002) became their first release to obtain gold certification after selling over 100,000 copies. In the subsequent years, CPM22 went through several lineup changes and won their first Latin Grammy for Cidade Cinza (2007). Further success ensued with the albums Depois de um Longo Inverno (2011), CPM 22 - Acústico (2013), CPM 22 ao Vivo no Rock in Rio (2016), and Suor e Sacrifício (2017).
