Justin Pitts better known by his stage name JayPitts is an American rapper and singer from Detroit,
MI. His music pulls from the soulful sounds of Detroit & his African roots as well as some of his favorite artists such as Lupe Fiasco, Lauryn Hill, Andre 3000, and Kendrick Lamar. Jay fell in love with poetry at a young age and gradually uncovered his gift for telling stories and crafting introspective lyrics. He soon discovered his love for performance and growing up in a moderately strict Christian household he spent his time rapping in his church youth group or singing with his sister when he wasn't shooting hoops with his basketball team. After graduation, Jay landed a job working at a youth center while he began teasing out music on Soundcloud. He quickly made a name for himself as he gained recognition from his single "Yellow” which became the soundtrack for natural hair and makeup videos all over YouTube and Instagram. His most recent single off of his album Highly Melanated is called “Windows” and has been his claim to fame as fans from TikTok streamed the song millions of times worldwide. “Windows” has been placed on the official playlist of the NBA and also featured on Ebro Darden’s Apple Music Beats 1 playlist. Jay has a clear focus on the impact of social media marketing and TikTok became an accelerated vehicle for his music and his psych ward stories; Jay worked as a social worker at a psychiatric unit.
Jay caught the attention of management company Odyssey Entertainment Group in 2021 through one of his many viral TikTok videos. It is crystal clear that Jay has a gift for hiding the medicine of the message in his music like those that inspired him. Jay aims to share a history lesson, challenge societal norms and explore philosophy when he puts his poetry to music. Jay spent 2021 writing and recording music and recently struck a distribution deal with Foundation media. We can expect Jay's new music to explore societal struggles, faith, being a husband and a father, as well as life's pleasures. Jay's arsenal is stacked with multiple EP's coming out this year with the first “Jay Against the Galaxy” coming out Spring 2022. His lead single off of this project is called “Butterflies” and will be available on all platforms February 11, 2022. "Butterflies" record and coinciding music video will give listeners a taste of his evolved and refined sound and tease what's to come for Jay's musical takeoff this year.
