PhilR, whose real name is Philippe Rannou, is a singer, songwriter, and percussionist from Quimper, Brittany. His musical universe fuses French pop with Afro-Cuban, reggae, salsa, zouk, and reggaeton influences, offering sunny, danceable rhythms carrying messages of peace, love, and freedom.
PhilR began his career in the late 1990s as a percussionist at reggae festivals, sharing the stage with iconic bands such as The Wailers, Sinsemilia, Culture, The Skatalites, and Max Romeo. In 2006, he co-founded the Latin American collective Chili con Carno in Concarneau, where he developed his talents as a percussionist and singer. In 2013, he traveled to Cuba to deepen his mastery of traditional percussion, an experience that would profoundly influence his music. Upon his return, he joined Bagad Kemper, a group that blends Breton music with Afro-American percussion.
