Writing new music on bass and guitar!
Having listened to a lot of progressive rock, heavy metal and jazz/funk/fusion at University, Matt decided it was time to pick up the Bass and Guitar and begin writing songs. Geddy Lee from Rush and Stuart Zender from Jamiroquai were the bass players that got Matt interested in learning to play and appreciate music.
Matthew's earliest work from 2013/14 was very rooted in the retro video game/ chiptune sound with a progressive dance twist, due to Matthew listening to a lot of video game music, until he discovered rock and metal...
From 2015, Matt started incorperating a psychedlic/ progressive rock sound to his electronic music, and then a bit more funk and jazz influence in 2017.
GRANTED FLIGHT was the last album that Matt almost entirely with electronic instruments, and this marked a change from the more chiptune/dance/video game inspired electronic music of his previous albums to a more progressive songwriter sound.
From 2020, Matt has begun to work on his singing as he believes his song direction calls for him taking up the vocal mantel and experimenting with different voices from his musical influences.
With RELENTLESS CONDITIONS, Matt brought the acoustic guitar, electric bass and vocals to the forefront, and Matt has been experimenting with more accessible acoustic songs with the longer progressive rock compositions.
