Aapo Häkkinen is a Finnish harpsichordist, organist, and clavichordist born in 1976 in Helsinki. He began his musical education as a chorister at Helsinki Cathedral and commenced harpsichord studies at age thirteen under Elina Mustonen at the Sibelius Academy. Häkkinen studied with Bob van Asperen at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and Pierre Hantaï in Paris. In 1998, he received the second prize and the VRT Prize at the International Harpsichord Competition in Bruges. He performed as a soloist throughout Europe and collaborated with musicians including Reinhard Goebel, Monica Groop, and Erich Höbarth. Häkkinen led the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra as its artistic director and conducted works such as Handel’s Acis and Galatea for the Finnish Chamber Opera and Monteverdi’s L'incoronazione di Poppea for the Finnish National Opera. His discography included Viola da Gamba Sonatas, BWV 1027-1029 / Trios (2007), Richter: Six grandes symphonies (2007), and Agrell: Œuvres orchestrales (2010). Häkkinen taught at the Sibelius Academy and received the Alfred-Kordelin Prize in 2008.
