Creepy Neighbour is the alias of songwriter, vocalist, touring machine and serial collaborator Max Taylor.
After relentlessly gigging around London as a bass player in his late teens, Max and his brother began playing in short lived indie band Clor who at one time played 32 gigs in a single month. Some years later the band’s album was placed at number 1 on NME’s “100 Greatest Albums you’ve Never Heard” list.
Touring followed with Roots Manuva and Groove Armada and in 2012, Max was asked to record bass parts for Mika’s album “The Origin of Love”. Max was soon asked to play in the consistent line up for Mika and has been touring the world relentlessly ever since.
After playing a keyboard set up in Tom Vek’s band, Max found himself moving from bass aficionado to an all-rounder, paving the way for his eventual solo work. During a break from touring, Max holed up in his bedroom and started recording into his laptop. Dj Tom Robinson heard promising early demos and encouraged Max to finish them and two projects emerged, one featuring a full band and the other, stripped-back piano compositions.
The full band album ‘Creepy Neighbour’ will be released single by single. For ‘Wandering Man’ - Creepy Neighbour’s piano compositions - The state51 Conspiracy started a conversation between Max and Mercury Prize-nominated Fyfe Dangerfield. The two began working on orchestral versions of the pieces to be recorded in 2021 with the Belgrade Symphony Orchestra.
