Justin Hart and Simon Needle didn’t quite know what to expect when they formed Wisteria during the waning college years in the Summer of 2018. Each grew up yearning to compose, create and introduce others to a way of feeling that doesn’t belong to a binary sense of happy or sad. Justin, who has been writing songs since his adolescent years, is a trained theatre performer who felt more suited performing as himself rather than in character on stage and Simon, who has a background in music academia and sound design, have given themselves over to the creation of post-modern music.
Their music is immersive and experiential with lyrics centering around the depth and intricacies of human emotion. They are sorrowful and melancholy, but groovy with a sound that goes beyond just the two of them. Their vocals draw heavily from psychedelic rock and 70s Heavy Metal, but turn on a dime to soft rock sweetness and pop melancholy and their instrumental writing defies pop instruction. Repeatedly, their body of work conveys the scene of the angel and a considerably more comfortable devil one’s moral shoulders
Their first release “Edge of Your World” is a cathartic journey into desire, hope, and vulnerability. Look for their upcoming single “A Flower in Her Mind” by years end and a full-length EP set for 2021.
