Hailing originally from Lithuania but now immersed in the pulsating beats of Edinburgh, Scotland, the dynamic duo known as Swamp People, composed of Sam and Kipras, are making waves in the electronic music scene. What started as a quest to save up for a record studio in their homeland took an unexpected turn as they fell head over heels for Scotland, prompting them to set roots in the vibrant city.
From the sonic depths of their studio, aptly named "The Black Hole," Swamp People emerge with an arsenal of beats. Armed with an array of electronic equipment, including the Akai MPC 1000, Roland TR-8, Korg Minilogue, Korg Microkorg, Microkorg XL, and the transcendent Moog Minitaur, the duo orchestrates a live performance like no other.
The journey began in the underground scene of Lithuania, where both Sam and Kipras honed their skills as DJs. Nearly a decade ago, they took a bold leap into production, transforming from DJs to versatile DJ/Producers. This shift provided an avenue for creative expression that the confines of DJing could not offer, marking the inception of Swamp People.
Having graced numerous venues in and around Edinburgh, the duo holds a special affinity for iconic spots like Cabaret Voltaire, Bongo Club, and the now lamented Studio 24. As their focus shifted towards production, Swamp People found inspiration in an eclectic mix of influences, ranging from old-school hip hop legends like Wu-Tang and A Tribe Called Quest to electronic pioneers such as Plastikman, Roni Size, Andy C, and Underworld, drawing from the vast pool of 90s House, Techno, Jungle, and D'n'B.
Their studio, a haven of creativity, is in a constant state of evolution as they relentlessly seek to enhance their workflow and upgrade their gear. However, a sombre note has struck the duo as they face the impending demise of "The Black Hole." Driven out by new developments and soaring rent prices in Edinburgh, Swamp People find themselves returning to the humble beginnings of a bedroom studio.
As the final chapter unfolds in their current studio, Swamp People bid farewell to "The Black Hole," leaving us with this release as a testament to their musical journey within its walls. The impending move might mark the end of an era, but knowing the resilience of Swamp People, it's only a matter of time before they resurface with new beats from a reimagined space.
