Mônica Salmaso, born on February 27, 1971, in São Paulo, Brazil, is a singer known for her contributions to música popular brasileira (MPB). She began her career in 1989. Salmaso released her debut solo album Afro-Sambas (1995), accompanied by classical guitarist Paulo Bellinati. She recorded “Felicidade” with Bellinati for the album Tom Jobim Songbook (1996). She was nominated for the 1997 Sharp Awards as Revelation singer in the MPB category. She released Noites De Gala, Samba Na Rua (2007), dedicated to the music of Chico Buarque, which was nominated for Best MPB Album at the Latin Grammy Awards. Her album Alma Lírica Brasileira (2011), a collaboration with her husband Teco Cardoso and conductor Nelson Ayres, won Salmaso the 23rd Brazilian Music Award for best singer of Brazilian music.
