Linda Clifford, born Linda Clifford on June 14, 1948, in Brooklyn, New York, is an American singer known for her powerful voice and soulful performances. She began her artistic journey at a young age, taking ballet, jazz, and tap dance classes from the age of four. By ten, she was performing on television and later became Miss State of New York. In 1967, Linda Clifford formed her own trio, Linda and the Trade Winds. Her first single, "Love is not the question", was released in 1972 under Polydor Records. Her breakthrough came with her signing to Paramount/Gemigo Records, where she released "(It's gonna be) a long long winter" in 1973, written and produced by Curtis Mayfield. This single marked the beginning of her successful career in soul music. Her first album, Linda, was released in 1977 under Curtom Records, featuring notable tracks like "From now on" and "You can do it". The following year, she released If My Friends Could See Me Now, which included the title track, reaching Number 1 on the disco charts. In April 1979, Linda Clifford released Let me be your woman, featuring a successful cover of "Bridge over troubled water". Throughout her career, Linda Clifford collaborated with notable figures such as Gil Askey and Curtis Mayfield, blending soul and disco elements in her music on albums like 1980's The Right Combination. Subsequent albums include I'll Keep on Loving you (1982), Sneakin' Out (1984), and My Heart's on Fire (1985).
