Born in Mamelodi, Pretoria is award winning Jazz Vocalist, Composer and Musical Arranger, Gabi Motuba who is also a Wits Music School Educator. The fellow multi-talented artist has always understood her purpose as she fell in love with music at a very young age to the extent where she studied and obtained a degree in Jazz Studies at Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria which is also a home to a variety of art, music and film alumni’s in South Africa.
Her journey has led her into numerous spaces where she contributed her production skills towards various projects such as “Sanctum Sanctorium” with the legendary Tumi Mogorosi alongside world-renowned Swiss pianist, Malcolm Braff in 2015 which was then released on the 10th of November 2016.
This then sparked Gabi into the making of her debut album “Tefiti-Goddess of Creation” which was released on the 1st of August 2018. This shaped her artistry flow as Gabi received multiple opportunities from her hard work such as being selected for the 2023 Artist Fellow program at the University of Western Cape as part of their Oscillations program which showcased her music in Berlin early 2024.
Whilst in the midst of that, Gabi finished off her sophomore album “The Sabbath” which was launched in various cities such as Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg and Pretoria during late 2024 which then led to the release of the sophomore album on the 27th of November 2024. The album received support from Spotify on their ‘Jazz NXT’.
