Biography

American rapper and producer Matthew Raymond Hauri (March 19, 1996), aka Yung Gravy, first reached Internet fame with his eclectic marriage of trap music with samples from 50s and 60s pop hits. Hailing from Rochester, Minnesota, Hauri began rapping while in college, performing at parties and other social events. In 2016, he formally quit his job and decided to become a full-time musician. That same year, his debut EP Mr. Clean gained considerable traction thanks to its title track, which was eventually certified platinum by the RIAA. Following the release of the EPs Yung Gravity and Baby Gravy with bbno$in 2017, Hauri hit the jackpot once again with the single “1 Thot 2 Thot Red Thot Blue Thot,” obtaining another platinum certification and kicking off a tour with sold-out shows throughout the US. All of the buzz surrounding the Minnesota rapper culminated in a record deal with Republic, who released his Snow Cougar EP in 2018. Featuring cameos by Lil Baby (“Alley Oop”) and Juicy J (“Buttered Up”), his studio debut Sensational saw the light in 2019 and peaked at Number 52 on the Billboard 200, prompting an extensive promotional tour with fellow MC bbno$. Follow-up album Gasanova (2020) met a similar fate, also hitting Number 52 and spawning the single “Oops,” which reached Number 23 on Billboard’s Bubbling Under Hot 100 list.
