Releasing 'Time' from 'True Nature' 02.25.21
'True Nature' is a self-produced reggae-inspired album written by Carla Werner under the moniker Native Soul Project (formerly N8VSOUL) between 2015 and 2019 and features the meditative dub signature of Californian bassist, Alison Wunderland. The album’s musical direction takes stock from the roots reggae genre but is hybridized by a fusion of electronic and dub, giving it a contemporary appeal.
The pair first formed in 2015 in Los Angeles, and have played the roots festival, Reggae on the Mountain in 2015 and 2017, along with many other shows and supports in California with the likes of reggae heavyweights Piracy Conspiracy, Pato Banton, Toots & the Maytels, Alborosie, Soul Syndicate (Fully Fullwood, Santa Davis, Tony Chin) and Sly & Robbie.
The album was written and partly recorded in the US but completed in New Zealand during the lockdown period of 2019, working remotely with various musicians/artists in the US, Australia and New Zealand. In that time, a remix emerged of the flagship track 'One To Ten' from the forthcoming album by producer/artist, Paddy Free of Pitch Black (Salmonella Dub–Inside The Dub Plates). The remix was released October 1, 2020 and will feature as an extended version on Paddy’s own Dub album releasing 2021.
