In the summer of 2007, a new name appeared in the twilight between emo and metalcore: Kill Her First. Four Berlin girls had formed a band to shake up the undeniably male-dominated scene. Their shared inspiration came from international bands such as Hawthorne Heights, From Autumn To Ashes, Rise Against, Funeral For A Friend or Kittie. The first EP Insidher was recorded at Waterdown drummer Philipp Meyer's Burning Flag Studio in 2008. Intohimo drummer Simon Bohm provided the artwork.
After numerous club shows in Berlin and a mini-tour of Sweden, the album Anatomy 101 followed in 2010. Though at this point the band was no longer exclusively female, the common goal was still the same: passionate music with a strong female perspective as inspiration and empowerment for young musicians. Kill Her First made a name for themselves live – supporting Thursday, Kittie and Anberlin, among others. A mini-tour through Austria with Blackout Problems followed and in 2012 the band shared a stage with Refused, Hot Water Music and Lagwagon at the Monster Bash Festival.
The EP Kill Her Sexismracismhomophobia First was released in 2014. Visions Magazine named it demo of the month. The band was subsequently invited to appear on the TV show Circus Halligalli and attracted the attention of French label KROD. The EP Born To Be Strong was released there in 2016. A new EP was released in 2021: Empty Hands is a four-track sampler that showed the band's newly defined musical direction and was also released as a limited vinyl edition (“Immense passion and lifeblood”, FUZE / “Recommended for all fans of modern metal”, Metal Hammer / “Kill Her First leave metalcore conventions by the wayside”, Visions). Even live, Kill Her First didn't allow themselves to be pinned down to one genre and played together with Descendents and ZSK. Music videos were released for the singles This Ain't a Cherry-Picking Party and Dead Between the Lines, which together have amassed almost a quarter of a million views.
In 2022, Kill Her First initiated the Female-Fronted Is Not A Genre mini-festival and has been bringing together exciting line-ups of female-fronted bands every year since, including Future Palace, Blood Command, The Pill, Saint Agnes and Still Talk. The festival enters a new round on October 18, 2024 at Berlin's SO36 – where you will be able to hear new material from the band: The upcoming album Künstliche Freiheit will be released in the second half of 2024.
