From first picking up a guitar at the age of 31 to garnering a label deal for his band Vigilantes of Love with Capricorn records at SXSW in Austin 5 years later, touring the US and UK for 20 years, and writing and recording 80 plus albums, Bill Mallonee has remained committed to a life of music. Inspired throughout his life by a wide range of music, from The Byrds and Neil Young to 80s punk to Son Volt, and having worked with such luminaries of Americana as Buddy Miller and Emmy Lou Harris, Mallonee creates music in a style all his own - one that reflects his love for roots and rock, the American experience, and the experience of the human spirit. As Rolling Stone Magazine said of his music: “Bill Mallonee has remained fascinated with the shadowy emotional toils and struggles inherent in the American experience, compelling, insightful, he continues to probe through Americana rock and roll proving that sometimes the only story worth telling is that of the journey.” That journey continues as Mallonee releases new records independently from his home studio in the high desert of New Mexico, his lyrics reflecting life in a quickly changing world: "I just write what I'm feeling, and figure others will relate...because when it comes down to it, we're all walking around in the same skin."
