João Manuel Soares Ferreira-Rosa, known as João Ferreira-Rosa, and born on February 16, 1937, in Lisbon, Portugal, was a singer and lyricist. He began singing at a young age, initially influenced by Cante Alentejano during summer holidays and later by Fado, particularly admiring Amália Rodrigues and Alfredo Marceneiro. His public singing debut occurred while enrolled at the Escola Agrícola de Santarém, where his talent for Fado spared him from hazing rituals."Fado do Embuçado" is the most notable song from his repertoire. He opened the Taverna do Embuçado in Alfama in 1966, which became one of Lisbon’s most famous Fado houses. Ferreira-Rosa also acquired the Palácio Pintéus in Loures, where he hosted various Fado events and recorded his album Ontem e Hoje (1996). Other notable releases include Embuçado (1964) and No Wonder Bar do Casino do Estoril (2004). Ferreira-Rosa passed away on September 24, 2017.
