Welsh-Australian singer-songwriter Sonny Winnebago (a.k.a. Harvey Jones) spent his early youth in Perth, Australia; making lemonade from the lemon tree in the garden, and making himself a flask of coffee to take to school at age 10 (apparently this is a thing in Australia?). Moving to Wales in his teens he soon swapped the flute for the guitar and started a band with his friends. He later studied music production in Surrey, before spending several years in North London. In this formative chapter, he made thousands of cups of coffee, wrote music during his lunch-breaks, raved, practiced yoga and began meditating.
Drawing influence from some of the greats such as Harry Nilsson and Cat Stevens, Sonny’s music is a kind of bittersweet, avant-garde pop. Much like his personality, his music is bright and uplifting; even when covering some of life’s more downbeat topics. Sonny’s voice is warm and soothing, like a modern-day Chet Baker. If you’re a fan of Belle & Sebastian, Beirut or Andy Shauf you’ll be sure to enjoy the world of Sonny Winnebago.
