Cherise Michelle is an artist and scholar whose work lives between meditation, music and memory. Born in Gary, Indiana and now based in LA, she makes songs that dwell in the little things: quiet kitchen dances, candlelit dinners, long walks to the corner store. Since childhood, she’s been archiving the mundane through journals, collecting tender details that grow into songs. Her music feels like home: spacious enough to hold theory and emotion, rhythm and rest, questions and answers, or none at all.
Shaped early on by the fullness of gospel choirs and the voices of Aretha, Chaka & Mariah, she moves fluently between low, velvety tones and playful upper registers. Improvisation is central to her craft, carrying the freedom she first felt in church into every performance. Whether in church choirs, jazz clubs or festivals, she shows up the same way: intentional, but never rigid, just letting the music move as it needs to.
A GRAMMY U member, Cherise has opened for Lucky Day, Coi Leray, & Dreezy, and performed at Breaking Sound: LA & Juneteenth in the Park. Each stage is another chance to make space for spirit and freedom, for herself, her audience and her band.
Her debut EP is set to arrive in 2026, introduced by the first single Flatline, a 90s-flavored musical psalm on intimacy, presence & community. Inspired by timeless voices and modern muses like KIRBY & Cleo Sol/Sault, Cherise carries forward a tradition of soul that feels both rooted and refreshingly new.
